Podge, Midge, and Sometimes Smidge
Happening somewhere right now…
“Hey, nice sign,” says a toad.
“Thanks,” says a fairy godmother, hammering a sign above the door to her new fairy godmother office.
“Hiring?” says the toad.
“What?” says the fairy godmother, who couldn’t hear the toad over the hammer.
“Ribbit,” says the toad.
“Ribbit?” repeats the fairy god mother.
“Ribbit,” says the toad, going red in his cheeks.
“I’m confused, you were just speaking English, and now you only ribbit?” says the fairy god mother.
“No, I just got nervous,” says the toad. “I really need a job but I’ve never had one before. I don’t know if I’ll be any good at it.”
“Well, what are your skills?” asks the fairy godmother.
“Eating flies. Eating slugs. Burrowing under mud.”
“Hm, yeah that won’t be helpful,” says the fairy god mother. “Anything else?”
“I can also burrow under loose soil, or piles of dead leaves.”
“Yeah, still not really the line of work I’m in…” says the fairy godmother, scratching her head.
“I’m good with people,” says the toad.
“That’s great!” Says the fairy godmother. “In fairy godmothering you work with a lot of personalities.”
“I’m not a bad listener either,” says the toad.
“We’ll see,” says the fairy god mother. Listening is the most important part of the job.
“I can also get us snacks,” says the toad.
“That would be lovely,” says the fairy godmother, “you’re hired. What’s your name?”
“Podge,” said the toad.
“I’m Midge,” said the fairy godmother.
And the new coworkers got to work on eating snacks and finishing decorating the office, then waited patiently for their first client.
